BLUEPRINT FOR LIFE IS A CHRISTIAN RESOURCE ALTERNATIVE to secular material in the area of goal setting and intentional living. From the time shortly after graduating college, I realized the power of having specific goals and intentions toward my life ambitions.

I began to read and study much of the life purpose materials that were available on the subject. This included materials from secular authors such as Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy, Napoleon Hill, Claude Bristol, Tony Robbins and others. I found little material from Christian authors on life purpose, calling and intentional living. The secular authors understood the psychology behind the human mind and how to harness its power for outstanding performance towards one’s goals. However, they mostly ignored God and His plan through Christ for salvation and God’s plan for building His Kingdom here on Earth.

For years I studied the secular authors’ works on life performance and intentional living, while incorporating my own Christian spiritual backdrop of Biblical principles. These tools and concepts had a dramatic effect on my life. I practiced many of these disciplines daily, beginning early in the morning when I would dedicate an hour to the study of God’s word and review of my written goals that I felt God had for my life.


THE POWER OF FOCUS IN PURSUING A CHRISTIAN’S LIFE PURPOSE

The goals I had set for my life included my spiritual walk with Christ, personal finances, physical health, relationships and my career. With my life goals on paper, I kept them in front of me continuously throughout the day. I had 4x6 cards, which I kept in my car and on my bathroom vanity. I have to say I had quite a youthful enthusiasm toward pursuing what I felt was God’s plan for my life.


THE POWER OF VERBALIZATION IN PURSUING A CHRISTIAN’S LIFE PURPOSE

Each morning using a micro-cassette recorder, I verbalized my Christian goals and visions for my life as I drove to work. I recorded in detail what accomplishments I thought were necessary for me to fulfill God’s plan and how I could make a difference in God’s Kingdom. Some of my goals were as you might imagine selfish wants and desires, but I had an overarching goal of building successful businesses that would allow me to exercise my Christian gift of giving to support ministry work for Christ.


THE EFFECTIVENESS OF INTENTIONAL LIVING IN PURSUING GOD’S PLAN AND PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE

Several years passed; I was 31years of age when my wife Michele and I moved from Orlando, Florida to Atlanta, Georgia. In the process of unpacking from the move, I found a box containing a number of micro-cassette tapes that I had recorded several years earlier.

Out of curiosity, I replayed the cassette tapes. While listening it became more evident than ever how powerful these tools really were. It was as if I had made those tapes yesterday! Many of the details of the vision I had for my life 5 years before had played out with uncanny accuracy.

I had accomplished specific goals spiritually, relationally, in my career and in my finances, even to the point of the car I was driving, my position within the company I worked, company awards I had received as a salesperson, the abundance of my finances and the place we were living. Even my physical weight and fitness had been maintained exactly as I had envisioned. I found myself exactly in the place where I had articulated the vision for my life some 5 years earlier!


HARNESSING THESE PRINCIPLES FOR KINGDOM IMPACT

I became convinced that day that if any Christian would tap into the power of these tools for intentional living they would make a much greater impact for God’s Kingdom. Having a “Blueprint for Life” would give Christians a plan for living out their God-given purpose and calling and the discipline to stay focused on their plan.

No longer would the idea of goal setting, life planning and intentional living be exclusive to the secularist. Christians would move to the forefront of using life planning tools along with these proven methodologies for a much higher calling than making more money or living in big houses. They would apply these Biblical principles to make a great impact for the cause of Christ!

Hence, Blueprint for Life was born.
